Riverport Partners with Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership to Store Emergency Supplies

October 4, 2006

For Immediate Release

October 4, 2006 (Owensboro, KY) – Owensboro Riverport is pleased to announce its partnership with the Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership to store necessary emergency supplies for area disaster relief. The Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership is comprised of area hospitals, public health departments, and other emergency response agencies committed to ensuring members are prepared for emergencies, disasters, and other catastrophe events within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The partnership is supported by the Kentucky Department of Public Health and the Kentucky Hospital Association. The Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership serves Daviess, Henderson, Union, Webster, McLean, Ohio, and Hancock counties.

Recently, the Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership purchased Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including such items as gloves, respiratory masks, and other miscellaneous items for use during emergency and disaster situations. These items are to be distributed to area hospitals, public health departments, and other authorized disaster assistance agencies in the seven county area as the need arises.

“We are elated to have top-notch, quality warehousing available for the storage of these PPE emergency supplies”, stated Angela Woosley, Chair of the Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership. Ms. Woosley is also a Registered Nurse and Program Coordinator and Planner with the Green River District Health Department. “Obviously, these PPE supplies are weather sensitive and finding suitable warehouse space in a centralized location for the region was of great importance to the success of this program. We are excited to be engaging an entity not usually associated with emergency preparedness. The generosity of Owensboro Riverport to the communities in this region is greatly appreciated.”

Jack Hogan, Funding Coordinator for Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership and the Assistant Director of Facilities at Methodist Hospital in Henderson said, “The seven county region will be well served with this centralized location at Owensboro Riverport and their warehouse professionals distributing these emergency supplies if a situation is warranted. This is a great partnership and benefit to our entire region.”

“We are pleased to dedicate a portion of our facility to this emergency preparedness program,” added Maurice Owen, Port Director at Owensboro Riverport. “Whether it’s handling cargo and goods via barge, rail, or truck for area industries, revitalizing the Coleman Terminal for economic redevelopment, or assisting in emergency preparedness our philosophy is to always contribute to the wellness of our community and region. We are pleased to partner with the Region 3 Emergency Preparedness Partnership to make our area better prepared for any future emergency situations.”
