As a testament to the Owensboro Riverport's reputation of excellence, the world's largest physical commodity futures exchange, the New York Mercantile Exchange, approved Owensboro Riverport as one of only two originally licensed warehouses as the delivery point of prime aluminum traded on its COMEX Division aluminum futures contract in May 1999. In March of 2005, the London Metal Exchange licensed Owensboro Riverport as a warehouse for delivery of NA380.1 aluminum alloy against its North American Special Aluminum Alloy Contract (NASSAC)…another testament of excellence. The Riverport’s Harbor Road property is dissected by a main line of the CSX rail system and is served by Kentucky Highway 331 to the Audubon and Natcher Parkways of the Kentucky Parkway system and U.S. Interstates 64 and 65 of the National Interstate system. Each of these major 4-lane highways is located within 70 miles of the Riverport. Interstate 69 is proposed to be constructed with 20 miles of the port within the next 10 years. Approximately 10 acres of paved outside storage capacity, 60 acres of compacted rock outside storage capacity, 14,200 tons of domed bulk storage, 15,000-bushel-per hour grain loading facilities and 653,000 bushels of grain storage capacity exist to handle any job.
